About Law Answered
We create learning materials for law students – and we are passionate about making sure that our guides are the best available anywhere on the market. Our mission is to create study materials that tell students what they really need to know for exam success, without all the waffle.
We are a small team of qualified solicitors and other professionals. We author, edit and publish over 35 guides for law students on the LLB, GDL, PGDL and LPC courses. Most of these are updated annually, and we also have plans to create new SQE guides and other online learning materials. That’s where you come in – to help us to edit and improve our existing guides, get new guides ready for publication and generally assist us with marketing and growth.
What you’ll be doing:
- Helping us to review and edit our current guides. Each of our guides goes through a process of checks to ensure accurate legal content, succinctly written material and consistent formatting – helping out with this will be a key part of your role.
- Supporting the team with legal updates.
- Supporting the team with getting guides ready for publication.
- Proofing new guides and working with authors and other members of the team to put new products together – whether that’s hard/soft copy books or other online learning materials. This could include formatting, compiling and uploading content but also the opportunity to proof, write and edit content from legal and style perspectives.
- Legal writing – such as editing and rewriting sections of our guides, or even writing new content such as blogs or example questions and answers.
- Assisting us with marketing, including writing/posting blogs, articles and emails and managing social media posts.
- Potentially helping to create and manage the new course materials we are considering working on. This role would be something we develop over the coming year if you are keen. It could include managing contributors, formatting and uploading content, creating new content, dealing with customers and setting internal goals.
- Assisting us with a running a small publishing business. This could include working with our customer servicer team, stock management, updating our website or internal docs, and generally getting stuck into anything and everything!
Who you are and what your skills are:
- A graduate – preferably with a legal background (LLB, GDL, LPC or equivalent).
- A great communicator with an outstanding grasp of the English language.
- Someone who cares about helping law students get to grips with difficult subjects and who is able to distil complex and technical material into easy-to-access resources.
- A self-starter, willing to commit to learning skills for the role without being micro-managed (but who knows when to reach out for help).
- Motivated, comfortable working entirely remotely, and with an ability to think for yourself.
- Fantastic attention to detail.
- Great time-management skills and the ability to prioritise and balance multiple tasks.
- Engaged, bright and interested in knowing how the business of publishing works.
- Keen to learn and to get stuck in to all aspects of running a small and growing business, whether that’s editing, writing, admin or marketing.
- Previous experience in legal writing, marketing and/or working in a startup is desirable but not essential – if you’re keen to learn then we’re keen to show you.
What we can offer:
- A rare opportunity to work in a hybrid legal and editorial role and to put your writing and communication skills to work.
- An exciting opportunity to be involved in all parts of a small and growing business.
- A role that offers both technical learning and personal development, but also one that really can be shaped by your strengths and skills.
- Completely remote and pretty flexible working hours.
- Working with a small and friendly team.
- Option (possibly) for some of your work to count towards Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) for the SQE (we are reviewing the SRA’s guidelines on this).
- Option to do this role part-time or full-time.
- Competitive salary (including benefits & pension contributions)
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: Midnight Sunday 31st January 2021
