Our PGDL Core Guide tells you EXACTLY what you need to know to smash your exams, without all the additional waffle lecturers throw at you. Our guide breaks down key concepts into bite-sized, easy to understand chunks. We use tables, diagrams, and flowcharts to help you understand the law more quickly AND we do it in the way you need for your exams.

Fully updated for the 2023-24 academic year in July 2023, this is a MUST HAVE guide for all PGDL students.

About

Examiners want you to answer questions in a certain manner – but other textbooks and manuals only tell you the law, rather than showing you how to apply it for exam success. That’s why our Core Guide includes structured answers that take you through the law and show you how to apply it, step-by-step, to problem questions, so you are 100% ready for your exams.

Our 4th edition PGDL Answered Core Guide has been comprehensively updated by our team of qualified solicitors with new chapters, fresh cases, and feedback from students at law schools such as BPP and ULaw.

Topics Covered

Our PGDL Answered Core Guide is a set of notes for all seven of the substantive law conversion course subjects:

  • Contract Law

  • Tort Law

  • Criminal Law

  • Company Law

  • Public/Constitutional and Administrative Law

  • Land Law

  • Equity and Trusts

Topics are addressed as template answers to “problem questions” to match the format in which the PGDL is typically examined. You can find a detailed list of topics covered here.

Which version should I buy?

We know that everyone learns differently, which is why we have created different ways for you to use our guides:

  1. Our printed guide is our original printed book. All topics are printed in grey scale, with full colour covers to protect your guide, and bleed tabs to help you quickly navigate between topics. Our printed guides use a wiro binding to ensure that your guide sits flat on the table. This is perfect for you if you who like to have an actual book to take to lectures, make notes in, and tab up for your exams.

  2. Our loose-leaf guide comes pre-hole punched (4 holes), ready for you to place directly into your own folder. If you like to create your own notes, but don’t have the time to copy out large sections of textbook (who does, right?!)… this is PERFECT for you! The hole-punched guide allows you to integrate your notes directly into your own notes and gives you the flexibility to re-order our subjects to suit your personal needs. Please note that this version does not include tabs or covers.

  3. Our MyLiveBook Interactive e-Book allows you to access your guide directly from your laptop, phone, or tablet. You can highlight, annotate, add photos, and search your guide both online and offline. Links within the book allow you to quickly jump between topics. This is perfect for students who like to work on one (or multiple) devices rather than on paper, or for those who like to work on the go.

  4. The blended learning pack is our creme-de-la-creme way to learn! This includes both a wiro-bounded printed guide sent direct to your house, and immediate online access via our MyLiveBook Interactive e-Book! Alternatively - if you prefer to create your own notes, we offer the blended pack as our loose-leaf guide with MyLiveBook Interactive e-Book access. The ultimate way to ensure that you always have access to your notes, whether sat at your desk, or on the go!

NOTE: MyLiveBook access will be emailed to you within one hour of your order being placed. Your MyLiveBook access will be valid for 36 months from the date of purchase. Please check our guidance on how to access your code and set up your MyLiveBook access. Please note that you cannot print your MyLiveBook notes out or copy and paste more than 140 characters at a time.

Which guide do I need?

PGDL Answered is intended for PGDL students looking to get straight to the point. Our notes are designed to help you learn subjects in the manner best applied to answering problem questions. For this reason, we recommend you use PGDL Answered notes as a study aid alongside your lectures and own studies. You can find out more about our guides here.

This PGDL Core Guide is suitable for students studying the PGDL at all institutions as well as the MA Law (Conversion) course at BPP. Click here to find out which book is suitable for your course.

If you are looking for study notes which address all of the seven core modules in greater depth than that required for the GDL, using problem questions, essay templates and other approaches, then we recommend you check out our LLB Core Guides.

Many students it useful to use our PGDL Case Book to use alongside our Core Guide. Our Case Book summarises the facts and legal principles of well over 3,000 cases that you will come across in your studies. These are split out into key cases and topics which match the layout of our Core Guide.

We also have a PGDL ULaw Core Guide (coming soon to replace the GDL ULaw Core Guide) for students studying at ULaw. We also have a GDL Core Guide for students studying EU Law as opposed to Company Law as part of their course.
